Group Volunteering

Whether you’re looking for an opportunity to volunteer with your friends for a day, or you’d like a unique team-building experience for your work colleagues, we can always use extra hands for events, newsletters, and larger site chores at our hospital!

What do Group Volunteer Days involve?

During a Group Volunteer Day, participants will be given a safety orientation and quick tour of sections of the facility by our Community Engagement Coordinator. Volunteers will then assign themselves to the tasks for the day, which varies widely depending on the activity levels of participants and what our most urgent needs are.

In the past, Group Volunteers have assisted with construction projects, mowing/raking enclosures, setting up enrichments, organizing hospital equipment, assisting with patient record keeping, newsletter mailouts, and fundraising event support.
Following completion of your block of time, groups will receive an AIWC thank you, along with coverage, if desired, of your group or company on our social media pages and newsletter.

What should we know before signing up for a Group Volunteer Day?

Group volunteer bookings are available from Tuesday – Saturdays, and can accommodate ~20 people per group. Larger groups can be accommodated, and are assessed on a case by case basis.

Everyone in the group must be over the age of 18, or have a parent/guardian with them at all times.

Group volunteer events range from 4-8 hour blocks, and can accommodate a wide range of abilities and fitness levels; however, please note that our site is not wheel-chair accessible.

You and your group members will not be in direct contact with any animals during your time on site, as volunteers require many hours of training and practice before becoming proficient at working with wildlife.

Sounds great! How do we book?

If you are interested in setting up a Group Volunteer day, please get in touch with our Community Engagement Coordinator at volunteer@aiwc.ca with the dates you are interested in, along with your projected group size and ages of group members. We require at least one month’s notice prior to booking a day for you, so be sure to contact us early. We look forward to working with you!
